West Ham vs Crystal Palace Report: Stalemate At The London Stadium
After taking an initial early lead in the first-half, West Ham were pegged back by Crystal Palace in the second 45 and had to settle for a point – extending their unbeaten run to five straight matches.
David Moyes’ side had won their previous four games in all competitions, meanwhile the Eagles came into the tie off the back of two successive disappointing Premier League defeats to Everton and Luton.
It was the Hammers who took control right from the off, pressing Palace’s deep-sitting back-line which they were rewarded for after just 13 mintues. A Vladimir Coufal cross found Mohammed Kudus who struck a first time effort past Sam Johnstone via a slight deflection off Joachim Andersen to open the scoring.
The remainder of the half was fairly even with opportunities for both sets of players, however it was the hosts who headed into the break with the lead following Michael Oliver’s half-time whistle.
West Ham netted a second just two minutes into the second period, but for Kudus’ effort to be disallowed as Tomas Soucek was deemed to be offside and to be interfering with play.
Just six minutes later, disaster struck for the hosts as Crystal Palace drew level. Konstantinos Mavropanos attempted to play a back pass to Alphonse Areola, but it was intercepted by Odsonne Edouard who placed a low effort past the aforementioned Frenchman.
Chances were few and far between for the remainder of the game, with the pick of the bunch coming for Jarrod Bowen. The England international connected with Pablo Fornals’ pinpoint cross and headed towards goal, but Johnstone was there to claim the effort.
