West Ham United’s dynamic midfield duo of Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus have provided a breath of fresh air for the east Londoners since they joined the club in the summer of 2023.
After losing star man Declan Rice to Arsenal, the Hammers had been tasked with replacing the England man and it appears that boss David Moyes has hit the jackpot – not once, but twice.
Alvarez and Kudus both joined from Ajax so it’s fair to assume they already understood each other’s game, and they have wasted no time settling in at the London Stadium.

Alvarez averages two interceptions per game across both competitions but the area letting him down is his discipline. The Mexican has been booked seven times in the top flight and twice in Europe, and his recent suspension against Fulham was huge as the Hammers went on to lose 5-0.
Kudus West Ham Goals
Mohammed Kudus has arguably been West Ham’s star player this season and we have ranked him as one of the best African’s in world football for 2023. The attacking midfielder has netted five times in the Premier League and provided one assist across 14 appearances. He has also scored twice in five UEFA Europa League outings.
Kudus will be one of the best African players to look out for in 2024 and Hammers fans will be keen to see what he can do in the new year; his start to life at the London Stadium has been extremely impressive and he’ll be pivotal in the club’s quest for European glory and securing a top-half finish domestically.

Declan Rice Transfer
What made Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus moves to West Ham possible was the transfer of academy graduate Declan Rice to Arsenal. Rice’s transfer was by far the biggest for an outgoing player in the east Londoners history and they already look like they have successfully replenished their midfield.
Rice was a huge part of the Hammers recent strong seasons in England and Europe and it was always going to be difficult replacing someone of his calibre, but boss David Moyes has certainly done himself no harm at all with the additions of Alvarez and Kudus. The pair cost a combined £73m, which is brilliant transfer business from Moyes.

Liverpool vs West Ham is the next fixture for Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus to test themselves in, which is the EFL Cup quarter-final on December 20th 2023. The Reds will be more than wary of the threat both players pose and they’ll need to be at their very best to stop them at Anfield.
