Twitter/X users have called for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay to snatch the No. 9 shirt from Antony Martial after the Scot’s impressive goalscoring form this season.
Scott McTominay’s No. 9 Form
In a season in which Manchester United’s attacking players have struggled for goals in the Premier League, it has required Erik ten Hag’s side to find scoring sources from elsewhere.
Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Victor Lindelof have all pitched in, but box-to-box midfielder Scott McTominay has taken it to the next level.
Following McTominay’s match-winning brace against Chelsea yesterday evening, the Scot now stands alone as Manchester United’s top scorer with 6 goals in all competitions.
Not only this, but McTominay’s goalscoring exploits have also transferred to the international scene, where the Scot is the joint fifth top scorer in Euro 2024 qualifying with 7 goals in 8 games.
As a result, fans on Twitter/X have been calling for Scott McTominay to become the club’s new no. 9 in hopes of capitalising on his rich vein of form.

Has McTominay Played As A No. 9 For Manchester United Before?
McTominay has previously spoken about his experience of playing as a no.9 and his comments may surprise a few!
Speaking in an interview with Manchester United, McTominay said: “Just being alive in the box and being quick with it and not being on your heels or sleeping in the box [is key] – whenever there’s a chance for a goal to go in the back of the net you need to take it. I’ve always thought like that.
“People always said: ‘You played as a striker as a kid.’ I never played as a striker!
“I played two games there with [former Reserves coach] Warren Joyce because we had no striker. So, whenever I score a goal, people always say: ‘He used to be a striker, that’s why.’
“I never used to be a striker! I’ve always been a midfield player, a number eight, so it is funny when you hear stuff like that.”

ManUtd fans hear me out
Can we mistakenly play McTominay as 9 and see how it goes? For me has a mindset of a striker than what he's doing at that back.Just saying
