This week we head to TPC River Highlands in Connecticut for the 2023 Travelers Championship where SportsLens’ resident golf expert Joe Lyons is offering up some of our very own betting tips and predictions.
A winner of the Players Choice Award in 2018, the Travelers Championship at River Highlands has been applauded for its services, hospitality, attendance and quality of the course.
The tournament has been held here since 1984 and boasts a prize fund of over $20 million. It is the second-most attended PGA Tour event annually behind only the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Travelers Championship 2023 Preview
This year’s defending champion is world number six Xander Schauffele, who beat JJ Poston and Sahith Theegala by two shots with a score of -19 in 2022. The 29-year-old is available at a price of 12/1 with golf betting sites.
TPC River Highlands was named as one of the top ten golf courses in the state of Connecticut by Golf Digest and stretches over 148 acres with ‘mature maple, oak, sycamore and eastern white pine trees’ lining the fairways.
The 15, 16 and 17th holes are notoriously difficult and are played around a four-acre lake. Position off the tee will be crucial here and scoring is likely to be high.
The short course designed by Pete Dye (e.g TPC Sawgrass, Whistling Straits, Kiawah Island) puts a premium on iron play and there are eight holes between 400-450 yards.
Birdies can be easy to find when in a groove at River Highlands, the shortest course on the PGA Tour schedule. Risk-reward will play a big part and players have to be ready to step outside of their comfort zone for an edge on the field.

Travelers Championship Betting Tips

Travelers Championship Tip 1: Tommy Fleetwood To Win And Each-Way (8 Places) @ 33/1 with BetUK
Tommy Fleetwood’s recent form has us all scratching our heads wondering how he hasn’t managed to pick up a win on the PGA Tour yet, but the signs point to it being just around the corner.
Tied-fifth at the US Open and second at the Canadian Open alongside six top-20 finishes in his last eight events have laid the foundations for what could be a special week at TPC River Highlands for the 32-year-old.
The Englishman arrives in Connecticut full of confidence in his game and ranks seventh in SG: Total on the PGA Tour this season, alongside being top-25 in SG: Tee-to-Green, Approach, Around-the-Green and Putting.
Fleetwood’s approach play was phenomenal at the US Open last week, gaining over four strokes to finish impressively with a final round 63.
He put himself in with a chance in the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass earlier this year (designed by Pete Dye), entering the final round tied for fourth but struggled massively tee-to-green (SG: -3.05) and finished 27th.
His game is clicking just at the right time and Fleetwood is one of ten players ranking top-30 in SG: Ball Striking and SG: Around-the-Green heading into this week’s event.
He finished in the top 20 at similar courses in the RBC Heritage, Genesis Invitational and Valspar Championship this season and the dots are primed to finally connect for a win.
I’m willing to take a chance on Tommy Fleetwood to win the Travelers Championship, priced attractively at 33/1 with the best golf betting sites.
Travelers Championship Tip 2: Austin Eckroat To Win And Each-Way (12 Places) @ 100/1 with BetUK
Austin Eckroat opened at a price of as big as 250/1 with some sportsbooks and has seen his value drop to 100/1 to win the Travelers Championship this week.
Earlier this year, the 24-year-old finished runner-up at the Byron Nelson – one shot behind winner Jason Day – and recently tied-tenth at the US Open.
Eckroat tied the nine-hole record of 29 and has risen to 85th from 113th in the Official World Golf Rankings. 16th at the Charles Schawb and 30th at the Memorial Tournament are encouraging results from the four-time All-American.
He has gained 32.5 strokes off-the-tee and 29.9 total in his last five starts. As far as a longshot pick goes at the back end of the market, Eckroat fits the bill for a prosperous week at River Highlands.
