The real reason why Fiorentina rejected Man Utd’s ‘derisory’ loan move for Sofyan Amrabat

Man Utd’s latest attempt to bring Amrabat back to Old Trafford has been foiled. Their £1.7 million loan bid has been rejected by Fiorentina and labelled as derisory. Here’s why:

According to The Athletic, Man Utd’s £1.7m loan offer would have been paid in two instalments. Fiorentina would receive £860k up front and then there would be a break in clause in January. Fiorentina quickly rejected this bid.

It’s understood the Serie A side would like a permanent sale of Amrabat. They believe he is worth £20m. Man Utd can’t sign Amrabat on a permanent transfer because of the financial fair play rules. Man Utd were hit with a fine in July for breaking those rules between 2019 and 2022.

Man Utd fans took to ‘X’ to express their frustration with the club’s stingy offer with one commenting: That’s not an offer, that’s an insult.

Another Red Devils supporter appeared to blame the collapse on Antony, writing: We’re seeing the after effects of spending €100m on the Brazilian fidget spinner.

Man Utd and Fiorentina are still working on a deal before Friday when the transfer window closes.

Man Utd are also looking to bring in Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella on a loan deal as Luke Shaw has picked up an injury.

This seems to be a familiar time in the transfer window for Man Utd supporters as the club has had a history of ‘panic buys’ in the past. Wout Weghorst and Odion Ighalo have been recent ones to fill the striker gap.

However, Erik Ten Hag is facing an injury crisis at the moment with Mason Mount, Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane facing time on the side lines. Their new £72m stiker Rasmus Hojlund has yet to make his debut as he’s been nursing an injury but he could return to first team action as early as Sunday.
