Chiedozie Ogbene, who swapped Rotherham for Luton in the summer, has managed to pip Pedro Neto to top spot for the fastest recorded speed in the Premier League this season.
The Republic of Ireland international arrived with a rip-roaring reputation as one of the paciest wingers in the Championship last term, helping Rotherham to a memorable survival with eight goals and four assists.
Neto, who follows closely by a margin of 0.07 km/h, has managed to hit the ground running after a lengthy layoff that stretched his overall spell on the sidelines to 15 months.
Fortunately, that hasn’t resulted in any loss in speed, with the Portugal international putting some of the Premier League’s top clubs on alert following a stellar start to the campaign.
The usual road-runners – Kyle Walker, Gabriel Martinelli and Adama Traore – all feature as the fastest players at their respective clubs, but none of them have registered a top speed worthy of a spot amongst the leading pack.
Dominik Szoboszlai is perhaps the most surprising name in the top five, although the Hungarian has quickly proved himself to be much more than a deadball specialist. His athleticism and speed on the counter-attack has played a crucial part in pushing Liverpool further up the pitch, and fast.
Elsewhere, Amadou Onana makes the top 10 despite a somewhat laboured looking running style. A man of his stature clocking in with a top speed like that is mightily impressive.
So too Dominik Solanke of Bournemouth, who follows Onana closely at number seven. Although often deployed as a target man, his ability to outpace the opposition when running in behind is often overlooked.
