Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has sent a congratulatory message to his Nigerian teammate, Victor Osimhen, after the Napoli striker was crowned the African Player Of The Year.
Taiwo Awoniyi Message To Victor Osimhen
Victor Osimhen played a huge part in Napoli’s historic Serie A triumph last season, contributing to 31 goals in 32 league matches.
Alongside this, the 24-year-old scored five goals in six Champions League matches and has now attracted interest from a host of top sides.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for the prolific striker, however, Real Madrid may approach Napoli as a deal for Kylian Mbappe looks unlikely.
The Nigerian recently signed a new deal with the Italian giants, which includes a release clause of just around £120 million.
He was also announced as the African Footballer of the Year and Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi praised his international teammate on Instagram.
Upon winning the award, Osimhen was met with a congratulatory message from the Forest striker which read: “Well deserved brother. More grace.”
Taiwo Awoniyi & Victor Osimhen 2023/24
The Nottingham Forest star joined the club in June 2022, for a club record fee of £17.5m and the Nigerian has become a fan favourite at the City Ground.
During the 2022-23 campaign, the bulldozing forward scored 10 goals in the Premier League and was pivotal in keeping Steve Cooper’s side in the top-flight.
However, the 2023/24 season has not gone according to plan for both Forest or Awoniyi, as despite scoring in each of the opening three matches, the Nigerian has suffered a host of injuries.
Recent groin surgery has ruled him out of the last four matches in the Premier League, but has contributed to six goals in 672 minutes.
His national teammate, Osimhen, has made a strong start to the season despite Napoli’s poor form, contributing to nine goals in 15 matches (all competitions).
