Southampton vs Walsall Preview
Russell Martin’s Saints have been flying in the EFL Championship recently. They haven’t lost now in 18 games, and will equal their club-record 19 unbeaten if they avoid defeat against Walsall.
Southampton extended their run with a 1-1 draw at Norwich City last time out, and have won their last seven straight matches at St Mary’s. They are up to third in the table and have closed the gap to second-placed Ipswich to just three points.
Walsall meanwhile are pushing for their promotion from League Two. Mat Sadler’s team are 11th in the table, but are just three points adrift of the play-off places.
A 6-1 thrashing of Grimsby town away from home will give them great confidence going into this FA Cup third round clash.
The Saints have already tasted cup defeat at the hands of a league two side, after they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Gillingham in August.

The South Coast side will likely be without Samuel Edozie and Jan Bednarek after both limped off during the draw with Norwich.
They join long-term absentees Juan Larios (unspecified), Kamaldeen Sulemana (hamstring), James Bree (hamstring) and Ross Stewart (muscle). Joe Aribo has been called up by Nigeria for the Africa Cup of Nations, so is also unavailable.
Russell Martin is expected to rotate heavily and may give several youth prospects the chance to earn valuable first-team minutes on Saturday.

Walsall also picked up fresh injury worries in their last game. Nineteen-year-old striker Freddie Draper lasted just 33 minutes before being the Lincoln City loanee was subbed off.
It’s unknown how serious Draper’s issue is, but Walsall are already without Ryan Stirk (ankle), Ross Tierney (hamstring), Joe Riley (knee) and Aramide Oteh (hamstring).
Oisin McEntee may well miss the rest of the season with his hamstring problem, while Harry Williams (abdominal) and Jamille Matt (groin) will both face fitness tests before the match.
