England fans have taken to social media to voice their opinion on the recent squad announcement made by Gareth Southgate.

What are the fans saying?

Over on X (Twitter), England fans seem to be pretty upset over the inclusion of Jordan Henderson and Kalvin Phillips. Phillips has only started one game for Manchester City this season and Henderson is playing at a much lower level now in the Saudi Pro League.

A user that goes by the name of Fantasy5 commented: ‘Still going in with Henderson and Phillips instead of someone like Ward Prowse is just crazy. What’s that guy gotta do?’

Richard Hazell contributed to the conversation: ‘Can’t believe still no Ward Prowse incredible really. Stillsticking with Phillips who still hasn’t played.’

Another user said: ‘What have Henderson and Phillips even done to get a place over Ward-Prowse?’

James Ward-Prowse has two goals and six assists so this season. He transferred to West Ham from relegated Southampton and has been instrumental in their side so far.

Ramsdale over Pope? Rashford over Gordon?

Another selection that had fans scratching their heads was choosing Aaron Ramsdale over Nick Pope.

On Instagram, a user commented: ‘Ramsdale over Pope?’

Another was in agreement: ‘How’s Nick Pope not there?’

Pope hasn’t been in the squad since he dropped out in March to undergo surgery on his hand. Pope has kept seven clean sheets this season in all competitions.

Aaron Ramsdale receives a call-up despite being dropped as first choice keeper by Mikel Arteta.

Finally, the decision to not include in-form wingers Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer has rubbed some fans the wrong way. They miss out over out-of-form Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford. Gordon has six G/A (Goals & Assists) and Palmer also on five G/A.

Rashford has just one goal all season whilst Grealish is yet to find the back of the net.

On X, Ellis commented: ‘No Palmer???’

Arry amongst other saying: ‘Cole Palmer absolutely robbed, not shocked.’

Foster chipped in to the conversation: ‘Cole Palmer absolutely robbed, not shocked.’

Any positive reactions?

Fans are happy to see favourites such as Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane make the squad after their electric starts to the season but the feeling around Southgate has remained the same with many fans criticising the manager for using his favourites and not experimenting with new and exciting talents such as Palmer and Gordon.
