Sheffield Wednesday vs Coventry Preview
Having just gone head-to-head in the Championship last weekend, Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry meet once again on Friday evening – this time in the FA Cup fourth round, and at Hillsborough rather than the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The Sky Blues ran out as narrow victors in that one, claiming a 2-1 victory thanks to a Ben Sheaf double either side of the half-time whistle. It’s a win that put Mark Robins’ side in a strong position in terms of the play-off race, as they now occupy sixth place in the table – just two points behind West Brom after going unbeaten in 10.
Sheffield Wednesday on the other hand, remain in a lowly-23rd place, now five points from safety. Danny Rohl’s side enjoyed strong back-to-back victories over Preston and Hull to close out 2023 and kickstart 2024, as well as a 4-0 victory over Cardiff in the third round, but have since lost two in succession.
Boasting just a three point advantage on bottom of the table Rotherham, the Owls look set for instant demotion back down to the second tier having only secured promotion via the play-offs last season.
A deep run in the world’s oldest football competition will give fans some much needed hope going forward, and something to cheer for amid their poor league campaign, however it won’t come easy against a resilient Coventry side whom they’ve already lost to on two occasions this term.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News
Rohl has confirmed that Dominic Iorfa is nearing a return for the Owls after almost a month out, but he won’t be fit for this one and is expected to return in February.
Iorfa is joined by the likes of Will Vaulks, Momo Diaby, Michael Smith, Mallik Wilks and Juan Delgado on the sidelines, who are all set to miss out on the cup clash through injury.
Sheffield Wednesday Predicted Line-Up
Dawson; Valentin, Famewo, Bernard, Johnson; Palmer, Cadamarteri; Windass, Bannan, Musaba; Ugbo
Coventry Team News
Leading goalscorer Haji Wright has missed the Sky Blues’ last three games due to an adductor problem, and it is now a race against time whether he’ll be available for the trip to Hillsborough as he nears a return to full fitness.
Robins has confirmed that the American is back on the grass and that he is close to a return, but failed to reveal whether the forward would make it back in time for their cup tie in Yorkshire. Other than that there are no further injury concerns to report within Coventry’s senior squad.
Winter signing Victor Torp, who was named in the matchday squad last time out, could be in line to make his first appearance for the club having joined from Norwegian side Sarpsborg around two weeks ago.
Coventry Predicted Line-Up
Collins; Van Ewijk, Thomas, Binks, Dasilva; Sakamoto, Torp, Sheaf, Palmer; O’Hare; Simms
