Sheffield United vs Brighton (0-5) Report: Seagulls Hit Five On The Road

Things got off to the worst possible start for the Sheffield United when Everton loanee Mason Holgate was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma. Down to ten-men so early on, it was always going to be an up-hill battle from there on for Chris Wilder’s side.

And it then took just seven minutes for Brighton to take the lead. A corner was whipped in and Lewis Dunk headed back across goal and in a goalmouth scramble Facundo Buonanotte helped the ball across the line to make it 1-0 to the visitors.

Just four minutes later they made it 2-0 after Danny Welbeck got involved as he smashed the ball home. Mitoma saw an effort saved by Wes Foderingham, allowing Welbeck to fire into the back of the net.

The Blades thought they’d pulled a goal back just before half-time, but a VAR review ruled out Ben Osborn’s close range effort.

Brighton led 2-0 going into the break with a firm grip on the game.

It then went from bad to worse for the hosts as Blades defender Jack Robinson turned the ball into his own net, attempting to clear a cross from Mitoma making it 3-0.

Three minutes later, Roberto De Zerbi’s side added a fourth, no way back for their opponents. Simon Adingra marked his return from AFCON with a delightful volley at the near post.

Adingra added another with five minutes to go, putting the visitors 5-0 up. Ansu Fati attempted a shot, but it was blocked and fell into the path of Adingra, who’s effort was deflected in.

After picking up such a big three points last week, it was a disastrous afternoon for Wilder’s side. For Brighton though, an important win lifts them up to seventh in the Premier League table.
