After starring for Chelsea in their 4-4 draw with Manchester City on Sunday evening, reports followed claiming that Pep Guardiola is interested in signing Reece James, and that he sees the defender as a potential replacement for the ageing Kyle Walker.

Walker was due to join Bayern Munich in the summer, but after lengthy conversations with Guardiola and higher-ups at the Etihad, the 33-year-old opted to remain with the treble-winners and penned a brand new two-year deal at the club.

The Sheffield-born right-back is reaching the final years of his career though, and with that in mind – a move for James, who is 10 years younger than Walker, makes sense from a Cityzens point of view.

Having missed the entire month of September due to a hamstring issue, James has since fully recovered and is looking to kick on in order to cement his place in Gareth Southgate‘s England squad ahead of next summer’s European Championships in Germany.

Neil Roarty, Betting Expert at SportsLens, said: “Chelsea captain Reece James has been a standout performer at Stamford Bridge over the past few seasons despite numerous injury concerns, so it comes as little to no surprise to see treble-winners Manchester City reportedly eyeing a move for the defender.

“City’s reported interest in James as a long-term replacement for Kyle Walker sees them favoured at a price of 6/4 to land the 23-year-old, while Real Madrid, who have previously been linked with a move, are priced at 2/1.

“The big spending Saudi Pro League are third favourites in our exclusive market, with any club from the Middle Eastern league priced at 8/1 to sign the England international, while shock moves to city-rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are priced at 12/1 and 40/1, respectively.”
