Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has discussed how Rasmus Hojlund’s recent upturn in form has coincided with some advice from legendary striker Robin van Persie.

Hojlund’s Upturn In Form

Having scored 5 goals in 6 games in Europe, Rasmus Hojlund is the Champions League joint top scorer, despite an underwhelming display from the rest of his Red Devils teammates, which culminated in an early exit from the competition.

Initially, this form did not translate into domestic football and the Danish striker failed to score a Premier League goal in his first 14 appearances.

However, since Hojlund’s inaugural strike against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, no one has scored more Premier League goals than the 21-year-old (5) and it could be down to the advice of a legendary Red Devils striker.

Hojlund Sought Advice From Van Persie

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has recounted a story of how he bumped into former teammate Robin van Persie at United’s training ground and how they were both left impressed with in-form striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Speaking on the Vibe with Five podcast, Ferdinand said: “I had a little chat with him (van Persie), bantered him about his gear.

“Rasmus was there, came over to me and Fletch having a chat about things, what I loved is he saw Robin van Persie and said to Darren, ‘Can I get five minutes with him, with Robin van Persie?’”.

“Robin says ‘Yeah come man’. They went away and come back 10 to 15 minutes later”.

“Robin says he’s asking a lot of questions, the sign of someone who wants to learn, a student. It’s nice that humility and humbleness to show. It bodes well for the future of this club”.

Hojlund’s recent goalscoring spike has coincided with an improvement in results for his side, and following a last-gasp victory over Aston Villa, Manchester United now sit 6th in the Premier League table, just 6-points off of the Champions League spots.
