Raheem Sterling reportedly turned down a £900,000 per week deal to join an unnamed Saudi Arabian side last summer.
Raheem Sterling Rejects ‘£900k’ Per Week Saudi Deal
According to recent reports, the former Manchester City player rejected the chance to join an ‘unnamed’ Saudi Pro League side last summer – despite an offer of 900k per week.
Many a Chelsea player has moved to the growing footballing nation, including Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and N’Golo Kante but Sterling opted to stay in London.
The England international has failed to impress since making a £50 million move from Manchester City in 2022 – contributing to just 28 goals in 68 appearances.
Chelsea supporters have not taken to the four-time Premier League winner and has been booed off the field several times.
In recent weeks Mauricio Pochettino has moved Sterling to the bench and his chances of making the England squad for Euro 2024 look low.
Reports say Sterling could have made an exit from Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window and an unnamed Saudi Pro League side offered Sterling a £900,000-per-week contract – which would have made him one of the top earners in world football.
Why Did Raheem Sterling Turn The Move Down?
The exact reason for Sterling decision is yet to be revealed, however, it is believed that the 29-year-old wanted to make one last push for Gareth Southgate’s squad.
His last appearance for England came in the 2022 Qatar World Cup quarter final and has not been selected to represent his country since.
There have been four international breaks since his last inclusion and Southgate has opted for the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Marcus Rashford, Jack Grealish, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden.
Sterling may be regretting his decision after dropping to the Chelsea bench, but an offer could still be made in the 2024 summer transfer window.
