PSV vs Arsenal Report: Eddie Nketiah Strikes As Arsenal Draw Against PSV
PSV largely dominated Arsenal through the first half, with the Gunners not having many opportunities during the first period of play away from home.
Eddie Nketiah was the one to break the deadlock just before half time, as a swift move finished with the ball at Nketiah’s feet around the penalty spot, where he made no mistake in finishing past the outstretched goalkeeper.
The Gunners took their advantage with them into the break, despite PSV enjoying most of the chances and possession in the first period.
It took the hosts just five minutes in the second half to equalise against Arsenal, with American sensation Ricardo Pepi leading a charge down the centre of the pitch alongside two teammates.
Arsenal were forced into making some changes in the seance half that Mikel Arteta certainly wouldn’t have wanted to make before the match, with Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Ben White all coming into the match for over half an hour.
Mohamed Elneny pulled up with an uncomfortable looking injury just before the 70th minute, so Declan Rice was required to play despite being one of Arsenal’s most used players this year.
The Gunners were rather harshly denied a lead with just ten minutes left, after Jakub Kiwior had his header ruled out for Gabriel interfering with play from an offside position just behind him.
Emile Smith Rowe was greeted with warm applause when he replaced Kai Havertz in the 85th minute, as the Arsenal midfielder made his return from yet another injury.
Guus Til had a late opportunity in the game to end their group stage on a high, but the winger dragged his shot just wide of the mark to keep the score level going into six minutes of added time.
