The standout performances of these 11 players in the Premier League over the weekend have secured their places in the Matchday 27 team of the week.

It was an action-packed weekend of Premier League football, as 30 goals were scored across the nine fixtures that were played, with one more still to come on Monday night.

Aston Villa and Wolves faced contrasting emotions as an Ollie Watkins brace and a late Lucas Digne goal propelled Unai Emery’s side to a thrilling 3-2 away win at Luton Town. Meanwhile, Gary O’Neil’s men were defeated 3-0 away at Newcastle United.

The title race continues as Liverpool secured a last-minute winner at Nottingham Forest, beating them 1-0. While Manchester City came out on top, defeating their local rivals Manchester United 3-1.

Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on booking a spot in Champions League football next season, as they beat Crystal Palace 3-1. Meanwhile, other European hopefuls Brighton were stunned by a 3-0 defeat to Fulham. Other results included Brentford 2-2 Chelsea, Everton 1-3 West Ham United, and Burnley 0-2 AFC Bournemouth.

Goalkeeper: Alphonse Areola –  West Ham

The goalkeeper made a remarkable nine saves in the 3-1 away win at Everton, including one from the penalty spot to deny Beto. He has no doubt been one of the best goalkeepers in the league this season. His manager was full of praise, saying “He’s just really good. He pulls off some terrific saves and he’s been very good for us.”

Defender: Mads Roerslev – Brentford

The right back scored the first equaliser for Brentford in their 2-2 draw against Chelsea, he also made three tackles, three clearances, and one interception in what was a very impressive performance. He will look to continue this form in Brentford’s next trip away to Arsenal.

Defender: Cristian Romero – Tottenham

He took the lead in guiding Tottenham as they mounted a comeback to defeat Crystal Palace and strengthen their top-four hopes. The Argentine scored the second goal for Spurs, he won six out of eight aerial duels and completed 117 passes with 92.9% accuracy.

Defender: Tosin Adarabioyo – Fulham

Adarabioyo showcased exceptional defensive prowess with five tackles and seven clearances, earning the title of the standout defender as Fulham secured a clean sheet in their 3-0 win over Brighton.

Defender: Milos Kerkez – Bournemouth

The left back put in a solid performance in Bournemouth’s 2-0 away win at Burnley, making seven clearances, three interceptions, and two tackles, highlighting his defensive excellence in the match.

Midfielder: Alexis Mac Allister – Liverpool

The Argentine international was excellent for Liverpool, he created six chances, assisted Darwin Nunez for the winner, and won most of his defensive duels. He’s been tremendous this season for Liverpool and is proving to be one of the signings of the summer.

Midfielder: Lewis Cook – Bournemouth

Cook assisted both of Bournemouth’s goals against Burnley. He also won three ariel duels and one tackle in what was a remarkable performance at Turf Moor. The midfielder is perhaps one of the Premier League’s most underrated performers, though there are several who believe he should be pushing for an England call-up.

Midfielder: Harry Wilson – Fulham

Wilson was instrumental in Fulham’s 3-0 victory against Brighton, not only scoring the team’s first goal but also providing the assist for the second. Contributing with consistent work-rate and dynamic runs throughout the entire match, Fulham are a better side with Wilson in this form.

Midfielder: Phil Foden – Manchester City

Foden’s stellar performance in the Manchester Derby saw him net two exceptional goals as Man City ran out 3-1 winners over Man United. With a total of nine shots, four of which were on target, he emerged as the primary threat for City during the match.

Striker: Rodrigo Muniz – Fulham

Rodrigo Muniz has been a revelation for the Cottagers since January. Continuing his form, the Brazilian made it five goals in five games with another against Brighton. The 22-year-old once again demonstrated his capability to be a challenging and formidable presence for defenders.

Striker: Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s quest for a top-four position remained strong with a dramatic win at Luton, highlighted by Watkins netting his 15th and 16th goals of the Premier League campaign at Kenilworth Road.
