Premier League legend Alan Shearer has warned Marcus Rashford of wasting his talent after the Manchester United forward faced disciplinary action over the weekend.
Marcus Rashford Controversy
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford caused uproar amongst football fans after he was reportedly spotted in a nightclub in Belfast on Thursday, hours before reporting ill for training on Friday.
As a result, the England international was omitted from Erik ten Hag’s travelling squad for their fourth-round FA Cup fixture against Newport County, which they won 4-2.
Manchester United initially released a statement blaming illness for Rashford’s absence from Sunday’s squad: “Marcus Rashford not well enough to be in the squad for Newport following illness; he has stayed at Carrington to train as he recovers.”
However, yesterday evening the Red Devils released a further statement suggesting there had been a disciplinary matter: “Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed.”

Shearer On Rashford Controversy
Despite the matter being put to bed, Premier League all-time top goalscorer Alan Shearer has weighed in on the conversation.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Shearer said: “If it’s an internal matter, you’d think something is up,”
“There’s a huge talent in there with Marcus Rashford. We’ve seen him be disciplined last season when he was late to a meeting before a game but something is clearly wrong – either at home or in his relationship with the football club.
“He can’t keep doing this, he can’t keep wasting his talent because it’s not right. He needs strong management, someone to get hold of him and tell him there’ll be huge regrets come the end of his career if he continues doing this.
“You can’t keep doing it, it needs sorting now. Thirty goals last season, four this season. When I see him play, it looks like he’s got the world on his shoulders so it needs sorting now because he can’t really deal with it.”
It remains to be seen whether Rashford will be included for Manchester United’s Premier League fixture against Wolves on Thursday.
