Porto Vs Arsenal Preview

Arsenal have played at the Estádio do Dragão three times in the UEFA Champions League and are yet to get the better of Porto.

On their last visit in 2010, an own goal from Lukasz Fabianski and a Radamel Falcao strike done the damage in a 2-1 defeat. Sol Campbell had levelled for the north Londoners.

Fast-forward 14 years, Mikel Arteta‘s side will be keen to exact revenge. The Gunners superb form on the road in recent weeks will bode well ahead of the clash.

The Dragons know it’ll be no easy feat to get the better of the Premier League title chasers. However, with history on their side they will also welcome a hostile home crowd to spur them on.

The Portuguese giants are a little way off in the race for the Primeira Liga title. Therefore, a strong run in Europe’s elite competition will remind everyone just how strong they can be.

Historically, Porto have struggled against English sides. Their last victory against a Premier League team in a knockout tie came back in 2004.

Manchester United were the victims that evening and a certain Jose Mourinho announced himself to the Old Trafford faithful.

Arsenal will need to be at their very best over the two games to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself. It’ll likely be a tight affair and a positive result in Portugal will tee them up nicely for the return leg.
