Has Everton legend Peter Reid called Dominic Cummings out for an old-school scrap on Twitter, or maybe the former Toffee just wants to have a quiet drink with Boris Johnson’s ex-advisor? We might find out on Monday. Regardless, for a bit of fun, the SportsLens odds compilers have priced up a potential fight – with Reid the favourite to ‘dust-up’ Dom.
Peter Reid The SportsLens Favourite Should The Cummings Clash Happen
Eighties Everton footballer Peter Reid (67) is probably the last person you’d expect to be taking to social media to arrange a ‘pistols at dawn’ clash with the former senior advisor to Boris Johnson – Dominic Cummings.
However, unless they are actually meeting up for a swift half and a catch-up, that looks exactly what happened on Twitter on Thursday with Reid calling Cummings a ‘hard man’ and asking him for a ‘meet up in London or Durham’.
So, could Frank Warren be waiting in the wings to set up this peculiar PPV (or maybe PPE) fight? With that in mind, the SportsLens team have come up with some fun odds on who would win the bout.
Peter Reid vs Dominic Cumming Fight Odds
See below the SportsLens betting odds should Peter Reid and Dominic Cummings ever get it on in the ring.
Despite Reid, at 67 years-old, being 16 years older than Cummings at 51, the SportsLens team still make the former Toffee midfield hardman the favourite to ‘stick’ one on Cummings.
Potential fight venues could, of course, be Goodison Park – or, perhaps Barnard Castle?
- Peter Reid 8/11
- Dominic Cummings 11/10

Peter Reid Bizarrely Calls Out Dominic Cumming In Hilarious Twitter Spat
Peter Reid, who has an ‘X’ handle of @reid6peter with 178.8k followers, took to the platform on Thursday to vent his anger at Dominic Cummings, who has been back in the news recently after giving evidence at the ongoing COVID inquiry.
The exchange started after Cummings revealed on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) a communication between ex- cabinet secretary Mark Sedwill and the secretary of the Department of Health and Social Care – Sir Chris Wormald.
With Cummings posting “All of you f***ers who whine about Vote Leave face this fact – on 12 March the DHSC Permanent Secretary was pushing chickenpox parties on the Cabinet Secretary who tried to get the PM to say this to the country that day – AND VOTE LEAVE SPADS STOPPED THE INSANE F***ING PLAN. “
“You can all say ‘thanks Vote Leave, thanks Ben Warner, thanks weirdos and misfits’ in replies, let’s hear it.”
Then, in a bizarre reply that must have caught Cummings on the hop – the ex-Sunderland manager Peter Reid waded in replying “Hard man, let’s have bevy. London or Durham not a problem for me..”
With the exchange then going – “Happy to, send a DM, drink when you’re in London next,” said Cummings, with Reid adding: “In London Monday, wonderful.”

By the way, the ‘6’ in Reid’s Twitter handle is after the shirt number he famously wore at Everton.
Who Is Peter Reid?
For the younger readers out there, 67 year-old Peter Reid is an ex-defensive midfielder that spent most of his playing days at Everton.
During his time with the Toffees, he won the 1984 FA Cup, plus two First Division titles in 1985 and 1987 (the old Premier League) and also the 1985 European Cup Winners’ Cup.
That spell at the Merseyside club saw him play with former Sky Sports pundit Andy Gray, Graeme Sharp and Adrian Heath under popular manager Howard Kendall.
Reid also won the FWA Footballer of the Year and PFA Players’ Player of the Year in their 1983-84 campaign.
Famed for being a midfield hardman, Reid also won 13 caps for England and played at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
He was famously involved in the England vs Argentina quarter-final that saw Diego Maradona score what was later billed the ‘Goal Of The Century’ after dribbling around many England players – including Reid.
After retiring Peter Reid then had spells as a manager, with stints at Manchester City, Sunderland, Leeds United, Coventry and even took charge of the Thailand national team.
