In an Ousmane Diomande Liverpool exclusive, the Ivorian could emerge as a preferred fit for the club’s defensive remodel – if Ruben Amorim lands as their next boss.
Ousmane Diomande Liverpool Exclusive
Liverpool have previously been linked with a £40million move for Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio. However, if there is a player to follow Ruben Amorim to the Premier League, it is felt Ousmane Diomande might be more likely.
Sources are indicating that 20-year-old Diomande’s profile is impressive and that even at £68million he could emerge as a better target than Inacio, due to the way he would fit into the back line with Ibrahim Konate and Virgil Van Dijk.
It is too early to know how this situation will develop; formal negotiations with Amorim over the vacant hot seat at Anfield still need time, yet if he does arrive – as expected – and brings his three-man defence strategy with him, then Diomande could be the top target.
Liverpool are also tracking Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri ahead of the next summer transfer window.
Their main focus off the pitch right now is to find the next manager, while on the pitch the Reds are preparing to face Atalanta in the Europa League – where they must turn around a 3-0 first-leg deficit.
Early steps are indeed going into preparing for their summer business however, and it is expected that a new left-back is going to be high on the agenda.
If Amorim lands then Liverpool will almost certainly sign a new centre-back, but SportsLens understands the club continue to be impressed by Wolves defender Ait-Nouri when it comes to options for the left side.
He has also been linked with Manchester City, though that is not thought to be something that is going to progress. It is understood Liverpool, along with Manchester United, will make in-roads to explore the terms and conditions that would need to be met if they are to follow through with their interest.
Ait-Nouri, 22, is a player Wolves will fight to keep hold of at a time when teammates Joao Gomes, Pedro Neto and Max Kilman are also being linked with top clubs.
