Nico Williams, 21, was part of Athletic Bilbao’s Copa Del Rey success on Saturday night, but is expected to be offered a pathway into the Premier League this summer.

At least five top-flight clubs have been scouting him regularly this season, and his live-wire display in their win at the weekend will only have perked their interest that little bit more.

Athletic Club defeated Mallorca after the match was decided on penalties, and Williams Jr was seen embracing his brother Inaki Williams as they celebrated a famous victory for the Basque club.

The sibling pair have deep roots at the club, but it is understood Nico is open to the prospect of a move as he is targeted by English sides.

Aston Villa have been on his case the longest, but now face competition from some of the country‘s biggest clubs. We reported earlier in the year that Tottenham were strong contenders, although they are expected to take up their option to make Timo Werner’s move permanent.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are also among the interested parties, but it is understood that Liverpool are very keen as they ponder how their squad will look for next season.

Salah was pursued for a move to Saudi Arabia last year, and the understanding is that will be the case again this summer as they consider another huge statement signing to elevate the league’s status.

The chances of such a move coming about are heightened right now as Karim Benzema hinted he could leave Al-Ittihad, who targeted Salah for £150m last year. Salah would be a top target to replace him, it is understood.

Liverpool have been scouting Williams at Athletic Bilbao across this season, but also further back than that. They have been convinced across this term that he is ready for a step up and as such he could become a prime target in the summer.

He had a release clause of around £42million but that could also encourage their top flight rivals to seriously consider a bid too.

In the hours after Athletic Bilbao’s win Williams stated he was committed to the club, yet that does not mean clubs will not seek to activate his clause.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are also reported to have interest in keeping him in La Liga.
