Newport vs Eastleigh Preview

Newport come into the game off the back of two 1-1 draws with Sutton United and Crewe in League Two. They lost against fellow Welsh side Wrexham on 23 December, and are 18th in the table as is stands.

But with the league as competitive as ever, they are only eight points off below seventh-placed Wimbledon and a play-off spot.

Eastleigh are also chasing their own play-off berth. the Spitfires are 11th in the National League after 26 games, three away from the top seven. Their last match was a 4-4 thriller with Dagenham and Redbridge, who they lost 4-1 to a week earlier on Boxing Day.

While their form has been okay, they haven’t kept a clean sheet since their 1-0 win against Dover in the FA Cup qualifying rounds on 14 October. They have since dispatched Boreham Wood 5-1 before knocking out League One Reading in the last round.

Despite Eastleigh’s heroics, Newport are favourites for this one, even if Eastleigh will be fancying an upset and a potential Premier League draw in the next round.
