Newcastle United’s contrasting home and away form means they have taken 80.8% of their Premier League points at St James’ Park this season.
Only bottom club Sheffield United have taken a higher percentage of their points at home (87.5%). Newcastle host Fulham on Saturday in the Premier League, having crashed out of the UEFA Champions League in heartbreaking fashion on Wednesday.
The Magpies gave up a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 to Serie A side AC Milan, knocking Eddie Howe’s side out of both the Champions League and Europa League knockouts.
Newcastle also lost at home to Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. But in the Premier League, they have lost just once at home all season.
A 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in August remains their only home league defeat this campaign. They have won all seven of their other home matches in the Premier League.
Newcastle’s Home League Wins
- 12 August – Newcastle United 5-0 Aston Villa
- 16 September – Newcastle United 1-0 Brentford
- 30 September – Newcastle United 2-0 Burnley
- 21 October – Newcastle United 4-0 Crystal Palace
- 4 November – Newcastle United 1-0 Arsenal
- 25 November – Newcastle United 4-1 Chelsea
- 2 December – Newcastle United 1-0 Manchester United
Newcastle’s Away Form
A concern for Eddie Howe is Newcastle’s form on the road, however. With just one win away from home all season, they are 16th in the away form table.
Newcastle have picked up only five points away from St James’ Pars this season. They beat Sheffield United 8-0 at Bramall Lane, and drew 2-2 with both West Ham and Wolves.
But with fans expecting a repeat of last season’s Champion League qualification, Newcastle cannot afford to rely on home form. Eddie Howe is all too aware of this, and discussed the side’s need to improve after their latest away defeat.

Their European exit may have been gutting for the Toon Army faithful, but it could also be a blessing in disguise. The chance to focus on league football in the new year might just allow Eddie Howe a chance to change his side’s fortunes on the road – moving them up the table.
