Match Report: Borussia Dortmund vs Newcastle
- Dortmund started strongly, with Karim Adeyemi coming close early on.
- The German side took the lead in the 26th minute, as Niclas Fullkrug smashed home from six-yards out.
- Newcastle offered very little in attack, with Callum Wilson cutting a lonely figure up-front.
- The Magpies went into the break one-goal behind, but started the second-half with a point to prove.
- Brazilian midfielder Joelinton had a golden chance to find an equaliser but his effort failed to trouble the Dortmund goalie.
- The hosts extended their lead in the 79th minute, as Julian Brandt finished off a swift counter attack.
- Newcastle could not find a response and suffered their second defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
Can Newcastle Win The Champions League?
The Magpies have suffered back-to-back defeats to Borussia Dortmund and are now three points behind the Bundesliga side.
In order to progress to the round of 16, Eddie Howe’s side will need to pick up at least one win over PSG or AC Milan and hope Dortmund do not do the same.
Their form in the Premier League has been slightly more promising, most recently picking up a victory over title-contenders Arsenal.
Newcastle’s next Champions League clash will prove tough once again, as they travel to France in a monster-clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
