Mohamed Salah’s hamstring injury could prove to be a fatal one as he’s set to miss a month of action for club and country.
Salah’s injury
Salah went down with a hamstring problem in the first half of Egypt’s 2-2 draw to Ghana. The original news to come out about the injury is that it wasn’t that serious. Salah was only supposed to miss the next two games for Egypt.
After further examination, Salah has been sent back to Liverpool where he will go through a rehab process. This news came from Jurgen Klopp’s post-match press conference after Liverpool thrashed Bournemouth 4-0 to go five points clear at the top of the table.
Klopp said: “That’s the plan. If that’s already decided….however long he is out, it probably makes sense for everybody to (rehab) with us and our people. That’s the plan. If that’s written in stone already, I don’t know.
‘He’s contacted our doctor and the doc tells me the news. So… I think he will be back.
‘I’m not a medic. I’m not a doctor. I would say if Egypt qualifies for the final then probably yes (he could go back). Ivory Coast I’m sure it’s a wonderful country, but we have no people from us there. They have people who have to take care of the players who are playing.’
All the Liverpool games Salah could miss
Klopp indicated that Salah could be out for three weeks or more. The AFCON final is on the 11th February. If Salah isn’t fit before then, he could miss some key games for Liverpool. This includes a trip to the Emirates in what is sure to be a vital game for the title race.

Egypt’s AFCON journey
Egypt could still be knocked out in the group stages. Their final group match is against Cape Verde. Cape Verde have already qualified for the knockout stage as they’ve won both their games so far.
If Egypt lose and Ghana or Mozambique win their game, Egypt would be out of the competition. They will need a win but without Salah, is it possible?
Liverpool have proved that it is with three wins out of three. It’s up to Egypt now to prove the doubters wrong.
