Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed that there is a ‘big concern’ over the injury to Thomas Partey, and that he thinks the Ghanaian will be out of action ‘for weeks’.
Mikel Arteta has confirmed that there is concern over the injury to Thomas Partey, and that the Ghana international midfielder could be sidelined for several weeks due to the issue.
Partey didn’t travel to Spain to take on Sevilla in the Champions League last week, with Arsenal confirming prior to the game that the 30-year-old had picked up a muscular injury.
His time in north London has been plagued with injuries, and he had only just returned to the fold after recovering from a groin injury at the start of October.
Gunners fans had been hopeful that the ex-Atletico Madrid man’s injury concern was only a minor one, but after missing last weekend’s clash against Sheffield United too, it looks to be a significant problem.
‘I think he will be out for weeks’ – Mikel Arteta
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s midweek Carabao Cup clash against West Ham at the London Stadium, Arteta revealed his concern over Partey’s fitness.
“I think he will be out for weeks. I don’t know how long. He has another appointment today. We will see more after that.” he told the press.
“It’s a big concern because when Thomas is fit and available we see the results and impact he has on the team.
“This season we have more protection, especially for that reason because we know in the last two seasons what had happened [Partey getting injured], and the impact that had on the team.
“I’m so sorry for him because I think he’s doing everything he can do right. He is gutted, but he needs to lift himself up again with our support and go again, because he is a player that is critical for us.”

Arsenal’s dominant 5-0 win over the Blades at the weekend extended their unbeaten run to four successive matches, and they’ll be hopeful of making that five against the Hammers on Wednesday.
Alongside Partey on the treatment table, Gabriel Jesus is also out for the forseeable future after being forced off late-on against Sevilla, and a chance for rotation in midweek could see the likes of Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira afforded a start.
The Gunners will be desperate to get through the clash without any further issues, as they face a tough trip to St. James’ Park to take on Newcastle in the Premier League just three days later.
