Both Brighton and Southampton are keeping tabs on Matt O’Riley’s situation at Celtic. The Scottish Premier League side are sweating over the future of one of their key players as we head towards deadline day.
Atletico Madrid are being linked with a move but the midfielder knows he has plenty of options beyond that too. Atleti made initial moves over a deal that would see him sign on loan and then join on a permanent deal in the summer – and Inter Milan have also shown some interest in a similar sort of deal.
The loan aspect of it is of very little interest to Celtic, yet there is also the reality that any bid upwards of £20million for the player would be difficult to ignore.
Matt O’Riley Wanted By Brighton, Southampton & Atletico Madrid
It will be an interesting couple of days to see if any serious offers are put together ahead of the deadline as O’Riley has blossomed at Celtic this season, hitting the sort of form that had him singled out as a teenage prodigy in his years at Fulham.
He done well at MK Dons and made a switch to Scotland for just £1.5million in 2022. That looks a great investment now as he has become a key player in their side, and one they will look to make huge profit on.
Atletico continue to show intent around a possible deal and Girona also like him, while Inter have had him watched on multiple occasions.
O’Riley has also caught the eye of Brighton – but that would probably not surface until the summer. Southampton have been hoping he could be a serious target for them in the summer window too if they are promoted back to the Premier League, as boss Russell Martin is a huge admirer of him.
