West Ham overcame Fulham 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in a game full of controversy from start to finish which left Fulham boss Marco Silva furious.
There was a lengthy delay for a VAR check on West Ham’s second goal on Sunday, after it was believed that Gianluca Scamacca handled the ball before lobbing Leno in goal to give West Ham the lead.
The goal was eventually given much to Marco Silva’s frustration, and the Fulham boss was left baffled at the decision when speaking after the match.
“I will not speak about the referee, sorry, because they will probably come after me and I’ll be off the bench or pay a fine. I am not here for that, I am here to manage my players.
“It was a difficult moment for the referee. It’s tough for him to see. He was so embarrassed when he saw it on the screen. The decision comes from someone in the VAR.
“He has to respect that but I saw on his face he was embarrassed when I spoke to him. Everyone saw it. It is what it is. I can’t control it. We can’t control it as a football club. It’s not an easy journey for us but hopefully the decisions will be more balanced in the next few weeks.”
Scamacca did not initially celebrate the goal but instead winced, with the striker evidently believing the goal would be disallowed. The goal was given however, and Michail Antonio further added to Fulham’s misery late on as the substitute fired a third for West Ham late on.
Scamacca has settled into London nicely so far this season, with the goal against Fulham marking the striker’s second in three starts so far this campaign.
With back to back victories after starting the Italian forward, we can certainly expect to see plenty more goals from the forward this season who already looks like an excellent signing for the Irons.
