Manchester City and Liverpool have built deep options in their front line to allow them to fight for trophies domestically and in Europe this season, while Arsenal are following a similar model and aim to bring in at least one more reliable, elite talent to their attack in the summer.

Early indications out of Manchester United suggest that there is a feeling they have to catch-up fast, prompting the new ownership to seek out a wide attacker and a centre forward at the end of the season.

Rasmus Hojlund is slowly but surely proving he has what it takes to be a Manchester United striker, while Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho form a reliable front three. Antony is trying to work his way back into the plans, but has struggled for any sort of form this campaign.

Anthony Martial is entering his final months of his contract and is expected to depart this summer, while Jadon Sancho’s future beyond his loan at Borussia Dortmund remains in doubt.

Amad Diallo is emerging as an option for rotation, but in terms of elite quality to compete, there is a feeling United remain a couple of players short.

We revealed recently how the pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise will step up in the next month as he continues to be tracked as a prime target.

It is expected that by the end of April the type of centre forward they are looking for will emerge. Hojlund will be the first choice No.9 next season, but United will look to sign someone ideally with experience who is also happy to become a rotating option – or even a young striker who can help push Hojlund for a starting berth.

When analysing the work ahead and how their rivals are set-up, United have not failed to notice areas in which they need to improve before next season.

The three-horse title race that is unfolding before us features teams with genuine attacking depth. Liverpool have Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo as their top forwards but also have used the likes of Harvey Elliott, Ben Doak and now Jayden Danns in the depth chart.

Over at Manchester City they have Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, and Julian Alvarez but also have players like Oscar Bobb and Micah Hamilton as emerging talent.

And current Premier League leaders Arsenal have Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz but also call on the likes of Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson.
