Manchester United are not ready to give up on Marcus Rashford, despite the potential transfer bid from Paris Saint-Germain.
His recent off-field behaviour, which generated negative headlines, resulted in his exclusion from Man United’s FA Cup match against Newport County.
Initially, Rashford’s absence was attributed to illness, but pictures and details emerged from a night out in Belfast last week, prompting the club to confirm they have dealt with an “internal disciplinary measure”.
Sources at United emphasise that there is a focus on redirecting Rashford’s attention to footballing matters and insist that there is no inclination to sell him at the moment.
PSG Eyeing Up Rashford To Replace Mbappe
Rashford’s name is being linked with PSG at a time when Kylian Mbappe is contemplating his future with the club.
Mbappe’s impending decision is expected to have a domino effect, and Manchester United is one of the clubs PSG is considering targeting in order to replace the Frenchman.
It is expected that Rafael Leao of AC Milan will be the top priority to take Mbappe’s spot in Paris, but if that deal falls through, Rashford is poised to be on their radar.
United already have issues in the attacking department, though, and losing Rashford would only enhance them.
Jadon Sancho has been loaned out to Borussia Dortmund, and there are doubts about whether or not he will return permanently.
There are also concerns over Antony’s long-term spot after struggling to live up to the hype of a big transfer from Ajax, and there is no way back for Mason Greenwood, who was once viewed as a future superstar at Old Trafford.
Given these issues, it appears more likely that United will stick by Rashford and try to reinvigorate him.
Manchester United Not Ready To Give Up On Rashford
While Rashford’s recent off-field troubles have not helped his cause, some figures within the club believe this moment should be used to support and protect him, with the aim of motivating him to return to his best levels.
Rashford, 26, is contracted to the club until 2028, and there is still hope that he can reclaim his status as a key player, especially at a time when United need goalscorers to support Rasmus Hojlund.
United accept that they are not currently going to lure in the world’s very top players right now and that replacing Rashford’s status would be difficult.
The imminent Mbappe decision will spark fresh speculation about whether Rashford leaves, but it is by no means a given that United will be keen to feel the backlash of that from PSG.
