Manchester United are expected to let Christian Eriksen leave the club on a permanent basis at the end of the season.
Changes On The Way At Old Trafford
The 20-time English champions are expected to oversee big changes across the board this year, and they will need to face decisions on numerous first team players, including Christian Eriksen.
Eriksen brings a wealth of experience to the dressing room, and this is one of the factors Manchester United have been wavering over any interest that has arrived for him in the past month.
Galatasaray are touching base about the possibility of taking him on loan for the remainder of the campaign with a view to a permanent deal, as Eriksen is stuck on the fringes of the Red Devils squad and seems surplus to requirements as things stand. At the moment it is unclear whether that deal will progress.
The Turkish champions are reinvesting in the squad after the sale of Sacha Boey to Bayern Munich, yet Eriksen is understood to have some reservations about a short-term stint in Turkey – where the transfer window is open until Friday – and United would be risking their squad depth by letting him leave.
Decisions To Be Made Over Midfield Personnel
United already have multiple midfield situations to contend with as Sofyan Amrabat’s loan spell will end, and there are doubts over Casemiro and Scott McTominay being part of the long-term picture at Old Trafford.
31-year-old Eriksen has had to get acclimatised with a place on the substitute bench thus far this calendar year, with his only start coming against his former club Tottenham.
That comes amid the fact Kobbie Mainoo is cementing himself as a crucial part of the club’s future, and sources suggest Erik ten Hag aims to enhance his potential by playing him alongside Casemiro as much as possible for the remainder of the season.
Eriksen will have offers both in the Premier League and abroad if he is told he can look for a new club in the summer, and at the moment sources suspect that will be the case as he nears the final year of his United contract.
