Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has taken aim at ex-Red Devils midfielder Jesse Lingard, launching an explicit rant towards the 31-year-old free agent on a recent Instagram post.
Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has been on the receiving end of an explicit rant from Red Devils legend Paul Scholes in the comment section of a recent Instagram post.
Lingard has been a free agent since departing Nottingham Forest in the summer, a move that underwhelmed massively as he failed to record a goal or assist for the club in the Premier League, and made just one league appearance in the last three months of the campaign.
The former England international has been linked with moves to the big-spending Saudi Pro League, Ligue 1 and Everton since departing the City Ground, however he remains without a club and is currently training out in Dubai ahead of a prospective return to the field of play.
Keeping fans updated of his progress, Lingard posted a captionless sequence of seven images showing him hard at work in the gym with his personal trainer in the United Arab Emirates.
Clearly unimpressed, ex-United midfielder Scholes left a comment on the post saying: “Are you just gonna f**k about in the gym or are you gonna actually play football?”
Scholes’ rant has since been deleted and is no longer available to view in the comment section of Lingard’s Instagram post.
Recent reports have claimed that the ex-West Ham star has been offered to La Liga giants Barcelona, and that his £1.7million salary would not break any Financial Fair Play restrictions for the Catalonian club.
Similarly, Everton are under a financial microscope at the minute amid their 10-point deduction earlier in the campaign due to FFP breaches, however they could offer Lingard a short-term deal at Goodison to provide Sean Dyche with further depth in midfield.
Lingard has also trained with Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq during the summer, as well as with Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in Florida, but a move to either of those sides failed to materialise at the end of the training period.
