Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne tops the list of Premier League assists per game following his standout display against Newcastle United.
De Bruyne Vs. Newcastle
Kevin De Bruyne made his long-awaited return to Premier League football on Saturday following a five-month lay-off and it didn’t take long for him to make an impact.
The Belgian picked up a hamstring injury back in August, which kept him out until City‘s 5-0 FA Cup 3rd round win against Huddersfield on January 7.
De Bruyne was named on the bench for City’s crucial Premier League clash against Newcastle United on Saturday, but was called upon in the 69th minute with his side 2-1 down.
Within five minutes the midfielder had made an impact, after he latched onto Rodri’s pass to confidently slot the ball past Martin Dubravka in the Newcastle goal to level the tie.
De Bruyne was involved again in the 91st minute when the Belgian’s precision lofted pass found youngster Oscar Bobb, who cooly finished past Dubravka to grab the 3 points for City.
On his performance, De Bruyne said: “I enjoyed myself. It was crazy.
“I missed this. I had a big injury and I needed the time.
“I think it was more willpower than anything else.
“I know I’m not able to do that for 90 minutes at the moment. I can put in a shift for 30 minutes. I feel it in my lungs, especially with the cold.”
