It was the visitors that started the strongest and did most of the attacking in the first half. West Ham had 13 shots in the first half, but failed to take the lead against Man United.
Rather against the run of play, Man United took the lead in the first half. Rasmus Hojlund, celebrating his 21st birthday, scored to make it four goals in four for the young striker.
West Ham were forced to swap ‘keeper at half-time. Łukasz Fabiański came on and found himself quickly in the firing range. Alejandro Garnacho’s shot was on target but took a wicked deflection before rippling the back of the net. The Argentine’s goal came after West Ham man, Emerson, fired over the Man Utd goal rather than picking out one of the three men free in the middle.
West Ham continued to try and cut the lead down but couldn’t beat the resilient Man United defence. Diego Dalot, who impressed both going forward and back, showed the desire of their defence by chasing down and blocking a Jarrod Bowen shot.

Garnacho doubled his tally for the game after Man United pounced on an error from Kalvin Phillips. Phillips was brought on by the Hammers in the second half, they’ll be disappointed to see another error from their new signing lead to a goal.
One negative for Erik ten Hag’s side was an injury to Lisandro Martínez. The World Cup winner hobbled off after appearing to jar his knee in a tangle.
