Luton vs Newcastle Report: Hatters Too Strong For Magpies
The home side have endured a difficult week leading up to the match, following the upsetting scenes from last weekend’s abandoned meeting with Bournemouth.
Club captain, Tom Lockyer, appeared to collapse on the pitch meaning the match was no longer able to continue and the Welshman is reportedly on the mend.
Luton started the match well and imposed themselves on the clash strongly with the home support. The Hatters came close to taking the lead in the opening five minutes as Jacob Brown’s effort struck the post.
Callum Wilson had multiple chances for Newcastle, but it was Luton who took the lead in the 25th minute, as Andros Townsend headed the ball home from close range.
Eddie Howe mad two first-half subtitutions, as Jamal Lascelles was forced off with injury for Sven Botman and Lewis Miley was replaced by Alexander Isak.
The remainder of the half was evenly split and Newcastle went into the break trailing thansk to an Andros Towsend strike.
The visitors began the second-half stronger, as Anthony Gordon came close with a vicious left-footed strike – but Thomas Kaminski stood tall.
Eddie Howe’s side thought they found an equaliser as Alexander Isak bundled the ball home, but after a VAR review the goal was ruled out for offside.
Rob Edwards’ side held on to all three points and Newcastle left with yet another defeat – making it five losses from their last six matches (all competitions).
