Luton vs Chelsea Report: Blues Earn Three Points Despite Late Luton Fight Back
Chelsea went into the match looking to build on their win over Crystal Palace on Thursday. However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side hadn’t won away since their victory over Tottenham on 6 November.
Luton, on the other hand, were aiming to continue their winning run of form. They had won back-to-back games for the first time since their Premier League arrival, after beating Newcastle and Sheffield United.
It was setting up for a comfortable afternoon for Chelsea after Cole Palmer opened the scoring after just 12 minutes, before Noni Madueke doubled their lead before the interval.
The Hatters had failed to have a shot on target in the first half, and things looked done and dusted when Palmer fired home his second of the game, giving the Blues a 3-0 lead.
However, former Chelsea man Ross Barkley found the back of the net with just 10 minutes of normal time left, giving Luton some hope.
Rob Edwards’ side threw everything at it, and Elijah Adebayo managed to pull another one back before injury time. A barrage of Luton attacks followed, but they just couldn’t find an equaliser.
Chelsea end their winless run of four games away from home and prepare for an FA Cup tie against Preston in the new year. The Hatters will host Bolton Wanderers in the same competition.
