Luton vs Arsenal Report: Rice Finds Late Winner In Seven Goal Thriller
It looked as if the Gunners were heading towards a disappointing draw to Luton at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday, but Declan Rice had other ideas as he popped up with the all-important winner in the dying moments to maintain his side’s spot at the top of the Premier League table and to extend their winning streak to six straight matches.
Gabriel Martinelli netted the opener after 20 minutes, assisted by Bukayo Saka, but that lead was short-lived as Gabriel Osho headed home the leveller for the Hatters just five minutes later.
A third Gabriel was on the scoresheet next up, as Gabriel Jesus floated above the hosts’ defence to head home from Ben White’s cross to reinstate Arsenal‘s lead on the stroke of half time.
Luton weren’t going to give up without a fight though, and that much was evident just four minutes into the second period. Elijah Adebayo, who Rob Edwards opted to start in place of Carlton Morris, headed home the leveller from another corner.
Just eight minutes later, former Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley twisted and turned inside the Gunners’ box and struck a low-effort past David Raya, leaving the Spaniard red faced as he knew he should’ve done better with the effort.
Once again, the lead was short lived as Arsenal drew level through Kai Havertz only three minutes later. The Germany international got on the end of Jesus’ deft flick into the hosts’ box and prodded past Kamisnki with ease to restore the parity.
They’d have to wait almost 37 minutes before netting the winner, as summer signing Rice got his head on the end of Martin Odegaard’s inch-perfect cross and floated an effort into the far corner to send the away fans into raptures behind the goal.
