New Liverpool manager Arne Slot is yet to make a signing this summer, but the Dutchman could yet make a late move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

Liverpool In The Market For Martin Zubimendi

Martin Zubimendi was one of the standout players for Spain during their successful Euro 2024 this summer and Liverpool have taken a keen interest in making the midfielder their first signing this year.

In a strange tactic, new Liverpool boss Arne Slot has made the decision to bring in no transfers up until now in the window, with the Dutchman instead relying on last season’s squad.

Speaking about any new arrivals during Liverpool’s pre season tour, Slot said: “I am focused on the tour, how we played, what we need to improve and what we did well. Like I said, the bar is really high for new signings because we have so many good players.

“So it is not so easy to first find a player to meet those standards and then [the question is] is he available? Then we have to find an agreement with them, so it is not always easy to find a player who can help us.”

Despite their lack of activity in the transfer window, Liverpool have been after a number six all summer and finally they seem to have settled on a target.

Zubimendi showed his class for Spain at the Euros and he has been a consistent performer for Real Sociedad during his career which began in 2011.

It is believed that having spent his whole career at Sociedad, Zubimendi has a reported release clause of £51million which Liverpool would have no issue agreeing to.

Liverpool’s new sporting director Richard Hughes admitted in July that last month would be a quiet one for the Reds – but in August their transfer business would reach “a crescendo”.
