Leicester City vs Birmingham City Report: Vardy Ends Drought In FA Cup Triumph
Birmingham missed numerous opportunities to grab the lead in the first half, with Foxes goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk blocking Keshi Anderson’s attempt early on using his foot.
Blues midfielder Koji Miyoshi narrowly missed shortly after, curling a fine shot just over the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area. Stolarczyk then delivered a crucial save, denying Jordan James in a one-on-one situation.
Stolarczyk continued to frustrate the visitors, saving Siriki Dembele’s low shot, before Jay Stansfield’s attempt hit the post just five minutes before halftime.
Leicester showcased their prowess shortly after the break, with Marc Albrighton providing an immaculate cross from the right. Jamie Vardy, breaking his goal drought of over two months, headed the ball into the bottom left corner to give Leicester the lead.
The home side all but secured their spot in the fifth round in the 72nd minute when Yunus Akgun scored his debut Leicester goal with a powerful strike into the top left corner from the edge of the penalty area.
The Foxes wrapped up the scoring with two minutes remaining as substitute Tom Cannon set up Dennis Praet, who found the bottom right corner, marking his first start since August with a goal.
The result means Birmingham suffer their first defeat under Tony Mowbray, while Enzo Maresca’s side book their place in the FA Cup fifth round.
