SportsLens revealed in February how Manchester United might yet challenge Arsenal for the signing of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, and sources are also indicating that Amadou Onana remains an interesting target for the summer window.

The current position of United’s transfer situation is that it is expected to rev-up in April, when the structure around Sir Jim Ratcliffe is better established and the club begin to whittle down a long-list of targets that have been recommended across the past year.

It is very likely that new names emerge before the summer window opens in June too.

Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, 23, has been linked with a £40million move but pulling off such a deal will be difficult, as the Molineux club will show a reluctance to sell.

Gomes only joined in January 2023 and at a time when Max Kilman, Rayan Air-Nouri and Pedro Neto are also likely to be targeted by big clubs, Wolves will not want to lose many key players ahead of an ambitious season for Gary O’Neil.

Neto is another player that has been linked specifically with United.

Sources have indicated to SportsLens that while there may be admiration for Gomes, it is worth remaining open-minded about how United re-jig their midfield this summer.

Sofyan Amrabat’s loan will end, Casemiro and Donny van de Beek are likely to be moved on and Christian Eriksen has publicly stated his current unhappiness amid a lack of game time.

Zubimendi, 25, is a top target for Arsenal in the summer but United could yet challenge them for his signature. And Everton’s 22-year-old Onana is expected to be chased by a host of Europe’s elite this summer, with United retaining interest in him. It is understood his Premier League experience is key to that.
