Although he is expected to depart Brentford this summer the chances of a cut-price Ivan Toney transfer fee is unlikely.
Ivan Toney Transfer Fee Exclusive
This week a new report claimed that Ivan Toney, 28, could leave for £30-40million in the next transfer window but our understanding is that such a low fee is unlikely.
Sources have indicated to SportsLens that Toney remains in the £60million bracket if he is to make a move away from the club in the coming months.
Speculation around Toney’s future has been swirling over the past year, even while the striker was suspended from football for breaching betting rules.
Chelsea and Arsenal have been most strongly linked with him, and it is true that both clubs do have detailed scouting reports on the Bees centre-forward.
It is unclear whether either club genuinely intend to push on with signing him at this stage. Arsenal have had him in view as a potential signing since before the end of last season, while Chelsea have had detailed him as a striker that can change the dimension of their attack, but seem to be focusing on other targets for now.
Hype around Toney reached the stage where he was being talked about as an £80million talent by the end of 2023 and it is believed such figures proved off-putting for admirers.
However, £60million is believed to be a more realistic view of where he sits right now, if offers are to come in.
If Arsenal and Chelsea do not move for Toney then Manchester United, Tottenham and West Ham United could step up interest – but none of those clubs would look to compete with the Gunners or Blues.
Toney has four goals for the Bees this season but his all-round forward play has been so impressive that he has a good chance of being in the England squad for Euro 2024.
That is another reason Brentford are not anticipating any need to lower his valuation in the transfer market.
