Is Rodri Injured? Spaniard Expected to Return Against Everton After Club World Cup Scare

Is Rodri injured? That is the question every Manchester City fan has sought to answer this week, following what looked to be a nasty knee problem as he buckled under a challenge in last week’s Club World Cup triumph.

Manchester City Record Without Rodri

It is no secret Manchester City’s form is markedly more favourable when Rodri is available, and Pep Guardiola need not reminding of the dangers Everton represent at Goodison Park, given they are unbeaten in four of their last five on Merseyside – winning three in the process.

Manchester City are unbeaten in each of the last 47 league and cup games Rodri has played in (W36, D11), and his absence earlier this season following a three-game suspension saw them endure an uncharacteristically sluggish run of form.

During that period, they fell to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup to end any lofty ambitions of a quadruple, before losing to Wolves and subsequently Arsenal for the first time in the league since 2015.

Is Rodri Injured?

By all accounts, it appears Rodri has escaped unscathed despite collapsing in worrying fashion following a challenge from Fluminese’s Aleksander last week.

Following the game, Rodri described the tackle as “one of the worst of his career”, but went on to play down fears of a serious knee injury, saying it turned out to be “nothing.”

The Spaniard – who returned from the treatment table to collect the Club World Cup Golden Ball – is now expected to be available for Manchester City’s trip to Everton on Wednesday evening.

Everton vs Manchester City Head-to-Head Stats

Luckily for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola, the potential absence of Rodri from the start shouldn’t have too much of an impact, if recent history is any indicator.

Everton have failed to beat the champions since January 2017 – a run of 13 games in all competitions.

Despite making the short hop across the North West on Wednesday with an eight-point deficit to make up with leaders Liverpool, Premier League betting sites still have last season’s treble winners as title favourites.
