Ipswich vs Fulham Preview and Prediction – Carabao Cup Fourth Round
One of six Carabao Cup fixtures on Wednesday, this particular tie may well serve as a Premier League audition for hosts Ipswich.
Since relegation from the top-flight in 2002, the Tractor Boys have yo-yoed between the Championship and League One. After managing to climb back up to the former this season, everything points to successive promotions and a return to the Premier League, having registered 34 points from a possible 39 so far.
For now, their promotion push is put on hold as they welcome a Fulham side who have been underlined by mediocrity this season.
Their only victories in the league have come against teams below them, with two of their three wins coming against sides in the relegation zone. They have displayed their astuteness at the back on occasion however, particularly against Brighton last weekend where they managed to snatch a point despite having just 28% possession.
The novelty of a cup tie can often lead to some surprising results, and we are predicting Ipswich to show off their top-flight credentials by securing safe passage to the quarter-finals.
Prediction: Ipswich 2 – 1 Fulham
Ipswich vs Fulham Tips
- Over 2.5 Goals @ 4/6
- Nathan Broadhead to Score @ 29/10
- Combined Bet Builder Odds @ 4/1
Ipswich vs Fulham Tip 1: Over 2.5 Goals
A typical by-product of Keiran McKenna’s expansive style of football is goals. Alongside high-flying Leicester, Ipswich have scored the joint-most goals in the Championship with 29, in one less game than the Foxes.
Five of their previous seven fixtures in all competitions have seen three goals or more, including their latest Carabao Cup giant-killing against Wolves where they ran out eventual 3-2 victors.
That particular result should inspire a huge amount of confidence, while also unsettling Fulham, who have had their fair share of underwhelming performances so far this term.
While we believe predicting a winner in a cup tie often proves perilous, this has all the makings of a goal-laden tie. Despite scoring the most goals at home in the Championship with 22 in seven games, Ipswich have also conceded the joint-second most with 13.
Ipswich vs Fulham Tip 2: Nathan Broadhead to Score
Ipswich’s forward line have been firing on all cylinders thus far, but we are predicting their top scorer Nathan Broadhead to add to his tally on Wednesday evening.
The former Everton man looks to have really found a home in the south east, and he has six goals in the league so far.
At 29/10 he offers excellent value given his current form.
