Ipswich Town vs Maidstone United Report: Tractor Boys Suffer Shocking Defeat
Maidstone United earned a place in the FA Cup fifth round after beating Ipswich Town 2-1 away from home – as Lamar Reynolds and Sam Corne cancelled out Jeremy Sarmiento’s strike.
Ipswich started the match as expected, dominating the ball and creating a host of chances within the opening 10 minutes – hitting the post three times.
Omari Hutchinson came close several time for the hosts, while Nathan Broadhead was thwarted by the impressive Lucas Covolan in between the Maidstone sticks.
However, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock, as against the run of play Lamar Reynold’s latched onto the end of a swift counter attack and chipped the ball beautifully over Christian Walton.
The Tractor Boys started the second-half strongly, again creating a multitude of chances and Covolan stood firm to maintain Maidstone’s lead.
Kieran McKenna’s side managed to find an equaliser in the 56th minute, as Jeremy Sarmiento smashed the ball into the near post opening and brought his side level.
The Blues looked to be on course for a winner, however, Maidstone had one more trick up their sleeves as Sam Corne caressed the ball into the bottom left corner just 10 minutes later.
Ipswich made a list of substitutions to look like their usual starting eleven, but failed to find the back of the net for the remainder of the half.
Maidstone saw out the match with some superb defending and Man Of The Match shot-stopper, Lucas Covolan, continued to impress – earning his side a historic FA Cup victory.
