Grand Slam Of Darts Day 5 Tips

19:15 – Josh Rock vs Krzysztof Ratajski: Ratajski To Win @ 13/10

In the opener for Wednesday’s Last 16 action, Josh Rock takes on Krzysztof Ratajski. The Northern Irishman won all three of his group stages in relatively comfortable fashion, while Ratajski pipped reigning champion Michael Smith to the knockouts.

The bookies rightly price Rock as the favourite here, but Ratajski should not be overlooked. The Polish Eagle has plenty of momentum and has previously reached four major quarter-finals as well as a semi-final in the 2021 World Matchplay.

Ratajski may have lost to Smith in the first phase of the tournament, but did so hitting an average of 101.00. He also overcame James Wade 5-4, hitting another impressive average of 99.30.

Rock hit averages of 84.24, 91.71 and 91.98 in the group stage matches, and we think he’ll need more to overcome the in-form Ratajski. At 13/10, it’s certainly a price worth taking on.

20:15 – James Wade vs Chris Dobey: Wade To Win @ 11/10

It’s an all-English affair in the second game as 3-time Grand Slam finalist Wade takes on 2023 Masters champion Chris Dobey.

Wade enters the knockouts with confidence, having thrashed the World Champion 5-1 in a fate-deciding group stage encounter. Meanwhile, Dobey is fresh off beating Johnny Clayton in a do-or-die clash.

Dobey will be the first to admit he hasn’t been playing at his best, hitting a dismal 85.81 average in a defeat to Rock and scraping past Berry van Peer. His victory over Clayton was a lot more like what we know the Geordie is capable of.

He can’t afford to have an off-day against Wade, whose experience and checkout success will punish him. Once again, we’re backing the outsider.

21:15 – Gerwyn Price vs Gary Anderson: Price To Win & Most 180s @ 13/8

This is without doubt the most anticipated match of the night. In a repeat of their infamously fiery 2018 Grand Slam final, Gerwyn Price takes on Gary Anderson.

The 2018 triumph was Price’s first of three Grand Slam titles. Anderson, on the other hand, has never won the competition.

To put it bluntly, Gerwyn Price looks unstoppable right now. 2023 may not have been a good year for Gezzy, having dropped to #5 in the PDC rankings, but he seems to have turned a corner just at the right time, with the 2024 World Championship looming.

The Welshman has lost just two legs in the competition so far, hitting averages as high as 95.31, 110.51 and 112.30. His performance against Gian van Veen saw him achieve the ninth-highest average in the tournament’s history.

Both Price and Anderson are among the top ten most frequent 180-hitters this season, making the Over Total 180s lines look tempting. However, we’re backing the Iceman to get the job done and to finish the match with the most 180s.

22:15 – Luke Humphries vs Ryan Searle: Humphries To Win, Most 180s & Highest Checkout @ 21/10

Having recently won his first major, Luke Humphries looks hungry for more. ‘Cool Hand’ is in ruthless form, averaging over 100 in all three of his matches so far. Also, he has the highest win rate of all players who hold a Tour Card this calendar year.

However, Ryan Searle may prove a mighty test for the #4 seed. Searle’s last leg of darts was an extraordinary nine darter to win the match against Nathan Rafferty.

Aside from that, Searle hasn’t been at his best this tournament. Searle was thrashed by Price in the group stage and scraped past Van Veen having been 4-0 down, before his 5-3 win over Rafferty.

The nine-darter might give Searle a much-needed confidence boost, but he’ll need more than that on Wednesday. We’re backing Humphries to win, hit the most 180s and hit the highest checkout.
