Manchester United’s Champions League clash against Galatasaray is in danger of being postponed, after a spell of torrential rain in the Turkish capital.
The Red Devils are in the ‘make or break’ stages of the Champions League, as a defeat to Galatasaray would see them exit Europe’s elite competition.
After losing to Bayern Munich, Galatasaray and Copenhagen (beating the latter in their only win of the campaign) Erik ten Hag’s side sit bottom of Group A.
If Copenhagen lose away to Bayern Munich and Manchester United can beat their Turkish opponents, then the English side will move up to second and in a qualification place.
Rasmus Hojlund has scored five goals in the opening four Champions League matches, but the Denmark international is unlikely to start.
Why Could Galatasaray vs Manchester United Be Postponed?
Images have been released of the constant rainfall in Turkey, putting the match between Galatasaray and Manchester United in doubt.
United’s U19 side played earlier today in Turkey against Galatasary’s youth side, with the hosts coming out on top and the second-half highlighted the testing conditions.
2500 Manchester United fans have made the trip to Turkey and have been warned to take ‘extra care’ due to the current conditions.
The streets of Istanbul have started to flood and more rain fall is expected prior to the 17:45 GMT kick off – putting the match in further doubt.
Pitch inspections are ongoing but UEFA have confirmed that the match will go ahead, despite officials being ‘unimpressed’ with various areas of the pitch.
A commentator on MUTV labelled the surface as ‘unplayable’ during United’s U19 match and supporters are concerned about the likelihood of postponement.
