Everton vs Manchester City (1-3) Report: City Claim Huge Three Points To Keep With The Pace
Everton came into tonight’s Premier League clash looking to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat away at Tottenham which put an end to their four-game winning streak, with a tough task against the reigning champions at Goodison Park.
The Toffees enjoyed a dream start to the encounter by taking the lead after 29 minutes thanks to Jack Harrison who netted his second goal of the season, poking home from Dwight McNeil’s delivery across the box.
Shortly after the restart, City responded as they always do to level the scores at 1-1. Phil Foden lined one up from distance and found the bottom corner to beat Jordan Pickford between the sticks and give the visitors some life.
Ten minutes later Julian Alvarez put City in front from the penalty spot, penalising Everton’s Amadou Onana for a clumsy handball inside the area. Alvarez bagged his fifth of the season and his first in the league since October.
With less than five minutes remaining in normal time, Bernardo Silva put the finishing touches on a huge win for City by capitalising on a poor clearance from Pickford and lobbing one over the England international’s head to seal the three points.
What Next For Everton & Manchester City?
Up next for Everton is a trip to the West Midlands to face the in-form Wolves, who will be buzzing off the back of two straight wins against Chelsea last weekend and Brentford on Wednesday night.
As for City, Pep Guardiola’s men now look forward to what should be a routine victory at home against Sheffield United on Saturday as they continue their bid to become the first side to win four consecutive league titles.
