Everton vs Brighton Preview and Prediction
On the surface, this fixture may appear to be a match-up between two teams who are separated by eight league places, but Everton’s recent form suggests it is far from a foregone conclusion.
Five wins across their last seven games in all competitions has sparked a wave of optimism amongst the Toffees’ fanbase, whose relief at seeing their side begin to distance themselves from the relegation zone is palpable.
Goodison Park was throbbing in midweek as Everton secured safe passage to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, and they return to home soil on Saturday to face a stuttering Brighton side.
Although the Seagulls have continued to perform with swagger and sophistication this season, they head into this weekend having failed to win in their previous four, albeit with three of those coming against teams in the top five.
Roberto De Zerbi will be hoping to galvanise his players enough to maintain a firm grip on the chase for the top six, particularly the likes of West Ham and Manchester United breathing down the necks.
This could well be another frustrating fixture for them however, given Everton’s renewed confidence in recent weeks. Below we have outlined our specific betting tips for Saturday’s game, which predicts a fifth straight winless game for Brighton.
Prediction: Everton 1 – 1 Brighton
Everton vs Brighton Tips
- Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Score @ 19/10
- Draw @ 29/10
- Combined Odds @ 8/1
Everton vs Brighton Tip One: Calvert-Lewin to Score
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s return to regular action has provided Sean Dyche with a linchpin at the spearhead of his attack, and the Englishman will be hoping to avoid any reoccurrence of the injuries that scuppered his development last season.
Since returning from a broken cheekbone towards the end of September, Calvert-Lewin has scored three goals in six appearances – three of which saw him play 60 minutes or less.
He is an ever-present danger as a target man, but he is more than capable when operating in tight spaces, as evidenced by his expertly taken goal at West Ham last weekend.
Against a Brighton side who have conceded the fifth-most goals in the Premier League and 1.90 goals per-90, we expect him to be a cause for concern for a defence who are desperately low on confidence.
Everton vs Brighton Tip Two: Draw
Brighton will make the long trip north with total confidence in the way they play. De Zerbi’s stubbornness has made the Seagulls as successful as they are, but an unwillingness to deviate from that style has begun to cost them in small moments.
An enthused Goodison crowd can be an unforgiving experience for the travelling team, and we expect the hosts to get some sort of result here to potentially move them closer to the top half.
Fulham’s resoluteness in defence against Brighton last week should be an example to strive towards for Dyche and Everton, who have conceded just twice in their last four games.
Picking a clear winner proved difficult, so we’ll take the value in the draw at 29/10.
