Everton have been handed a 10-point Premier League deduction for a breach of profit and sustainability rules. The financial fair play violation means the Toffees have dropped from 14th to 19th and are firmly back in the relegation mire.
The deduction was imposed immediately after an Independent Commission found Sean Dyche’s side guilty of breaching the profit and sustainability rules, determining that the club resulted in a PSR Calculation loss of £124.5m, when the limit is set and permitted at £105m.
Everton’s Reaction To The 10-Point Deduction
“Everton Football Club is both shocked and disappointed by the ruling of the Premier League‘s Commission.
“The club believes that the Commission has imposed a wholly disproportionate and unjust sporting sanction. The club has already communicated its intention to appeal the decision to the Premier League. The appeal process will now commence, and the club’s case will be heard by an Appeal Board appointed pursuant to the Premier League’s rules in due course.
“Everton maintains that it has been open and transparent in the information it has provided to the Premier League and that it has always respected the integrity of the process. The Club does not recognise the finding that it failed to act with the utmost good faith and it does not understand this to have been an allegation made by the Premier League during the course of proceedings. Both the harshness and severity of the sanction imposed by the Commission are neither a fair nor a reasonable reflection of the evidence submitted.
“The Club will also monitor with great interest the decisions made in any other cases concerning the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
“Everton cannot comment on this matter any further until the appeal process has concluded,” the club statement said.
This deduction is now one of the biggest around Europe – you can see how it compares here.

What’s Next For Everton?
Friday’s news will no doubt have hit everyone associated with Everton FC pretty hard, but the club do have the rest of the international break to begin to compose themselves. Sean Dyche and his players will have had plenty of time to absorb the points deduction and they can begin to prepare for their next Premier League fixture against Manchester United on November 26th at Goodison Park in their normal fashion.
Looking ahead, the Toffees will face Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Chelsea and Burnley before entertaining Fulham in the EFL Cup quarter-final on December 19th. The Merseysiders are by no means cut adrift in the fight for survival but they will have to be at their very best in the coming weeks to pull themselves away from danger.
Everton are now also just 2/1 to be relegated according to the best UK betting sites.
