An injury crisis is rising at Old Trafford with Varane, Mount and Shaw seemingly on the side lines for the foreseeable future. Erik Ten Hag has responded to this and has now blocked any potential bids from clubs trying to get Harry Maguire’s signature.

The transfer window closes on Friday for Premier League teams and it now looks certain that Maguire will stay at Old Trafford at least until the transfer window reopens in January. Manchester United take on Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon where Maguire could make his first starting appearance in the United team this season following an injury to Varane.

Gareth Southgate names his squad for the England Euro 2024 qualifiers tomorrow and Maguire will be banking on a place. The 30-year-old has always impressed in an England shirt but has always struggled to find form in a United shirt. If Maguire continues to not start for Man Utd, surely his guaranteed place in this current England line-up will start to slip away.

Maguire spent the majority of last season on the bench due to the successful partnership between Martinez and Varane. Manchester United gained the most clean sheets in the Premier League last season in which Maguire only started sixteen of the thirty-eight games.

Maguire was on the verge of joining West Ham United but ultimately decided that a move to the London Stadium wasn’t the best move for him as he wants a bigger club and higher wages. Maguire is earning £190k a week at Man Utd. The best that West Ham could offer him was £120k.

Determined to leave Manchester this summer, it’s understood that Maguire was even considering a loan spell. United boss Ten Hag has always said that he’s fine for Maguire to stay and fight for his place. He might even get that opportunity now with Varane missing at least a months worth of action. Could this be Maguire’s big break?
